How to begin and end one’s time of prayer:
- Find a comfortable and quiet place
- Settle in
- For a few moments set aside the cares and concerns that fill your mind
- Become aware of the spirit of the space you are in
- If it helps to focus your direction, recite or read a few verses of Scripture
- Sit for a minute in silence – become comfortable with your breathing
- Read the prayer and then offer up personal prayers of thanksgiving, confession, or intercession
- When it seems right, end prayer either with the Lord’s prayer or another minute of silence

A Thanksgiving Prayer
A Prayer for Small Things
O God, giver of little graces, open our senses up so that we might see the many small gifts that you give to us. In a world that cherishes big and powerful things, we often find ourselves with ungrateful hearts because we are blinded to the little graces which surround us at each moment of each day. For one good meal, for one small sight of beauty seen, for one embrace that tells us we are loved, for one small word of hope shared, for one moment of laughter, for watching one child at play or hearing one small song of a bird, for all the “little one graces,” we sing to you our praises. May each day be thanksgiving day because our spirits are alert to Your Spirit alive in the world. In Jesus’ name. Amen
September Prayer
Creator God, who set the stars in their places and directs the courses of the planets; who robed this earth with a thin garment of air, making it a haven of beauty and life; who breathed into each of us the breath of life: We thank you for the gift of air. As we feel the crispness of fall gradually edging its way into these days, create in us such a sense of wonder and delight in this and in all your gifts that we might receive them with gratitude, care for them with love, and generously share all your gifts with all your creatures, to the honor and glory of your holy name. Amen.
