Prayers and Prayer Practices

How to begin and end one’s time of prayer:

  • Find a comfortable and quiet place
  • Settle in
  • For a few moments set aside the cares and concerns that fill your mind
  • Become aware of the spirit of the space you are in
  • If it helps to focus your direction, recite or read a few verses of Scripture
  • Sit for a minute in silence – become comfortable with your breathing
  • Read the prayer and then offer up personal prayers of thanksgiving, confession, or intercession
  • When it seems right, end prayer either with the Lord’s prayer or another minute of silence

Prayer for Summer

June – August 2008

God of Pentecostal fire, the sun is ablaze with its radiant heat again and its bright light that illumines so vividly each crashing or mountain landscape.  In this summer season with its slowdown mode of living, set my heart ablaze with an unbounded love for Christ and for this wonderful world you created.  Challenge me with the overwhelming love and beauty that always surrounds me to open my senses to all of creation so that I might realize how blessed I am.  And then, just maybe, I might be inspired to bring Sonlight to others and bring warmth to those who feel left out in the cold or are cold-hearted.  Bless my summer doings and rest with your presence.  Amen.
