July 29 – August 1 - Ninth Annual Jack A. Schlegel Summer Retreat Golf Outing and Bible Study in the Green Mountains of Manchester, Vermont, from Thursday evening July 29 returning Sunday afternoon, August 1. Bob Naylor will be leading us in this spiritual, social and physically enriching weekend. Everyone can carpool up and back anytime during the weekend. Although we will be able to play golf each of the 3 days, absolutely no ability but a lot of humility and a sense of humor are necessary. Those who can depart from Greenwich Thursday afternoon will arrive in Manchester (200 miles/3 hour drive) in time for dinner followed by a brief spiritual time with Bob. We will play golf, tennis, swim, fish, shop, tour the area or just relax together. We will provide housing for all, so the only expenses are meals and golf fees of approximately $100 per 18 holes including carts. Spouses are invited for our cookout dinner and sing along led by Alexander Constantine Saturday evening, as well as golf and lunch on Sunday. We’ll be home by Sunday dinner. The theme of the Bible Study – “Trying to Understand Women!” – Some of the important women in the Bible. August 18 -Wednesay, 7:15 p.m. Movie Night in the air conditioned Chapel Theater. Nominated for Best Animated Film – Family and Adult Story – Fantastic Mr. Fox. Mr. and Mrs. Fox (George Clooney and Meryl Streep) live an idyllic home life with their son Ash (Jason Schwartzman) and visiting young nephew Kristopherson (Eric Anderson). But after 12 years, the bucolic existence proves too much for Mr. Fox’s wild animal instincts. Soon he slips back into his old ways as a sneaky chicken thief and in doing so, endangers not only his beloved family, but the whole animal community. Trapped underground and with not enough food to go around, the animals band together to fight against the evil Farmers - Boggis, Bunce and Bean - who are determined to capture the audacious, fantastic Mr. Fox at any cost. September 11 - Saturday - 7:30 a.m. A Quiet Time to Remember 9/11 - Our Labyrinth for Peace was dedicated to those who lost their lives on 9/11 and others who experience suffering throughout the world. Recently our media has been filled with emotional remembrances of 9/11 and pictures and stories of suffering in Pakistan. We need some space and some time to just sit and remember and ask for God’s help and God’s guidance in healing wounds and helping those who suffer. On September 11 at 7:30 a.m. we will take a quiet moment to remember and to reflect on the victims of 9/11 and those who are the victims of poverty and warfare that is beyond their control. There will be a brief period of readings and then resources will be available for prayer and walking the labyrinth. The resources will be available all day so that people may stop and remember.
September 11 - Saturday - 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 Noon. "Seeking God in Science" - For younger children - A presentation by the Mad Science Group, a craft program and a snack will be provided.
September 12 - Homecoming Sunday - 10:30 a.m. A Very Special Service that will celebrate our wonderful family of faith. Mr. Naylor will preach an intergenerational sermon – “The Parrot and the Hidden Treasure.” Our annual Homecoming Barbecue will follow the
church service. We will
provide the main course and soft drinks; however, last
names beginning with the letter A-G, please bring
dessert enough for ten; H-Z, please bring salad for
ten. A Bouncy Castle and an Ice Cream Truck will
also be provided. In addition, there will be a

April 11 – Caroling For All Seasons, 11:30 a.m. - Each year, a group of our members get together during the holiday season to share the joy of Christmas with residents from our community who are living in extended care facilities. These annual visits bring a message of cheer from our carolers and our audience seems to be delighted with our musical serenade. Because these annual visits have turned out to be such a meaningful outreach for all involved, we have decided to offer year-round caroling to these folks as well as to members of our church family who are homebound. Our first visit will be held on Sunday, April 11 and we will be sharing the message of the Resurrection during our visits. If you would like to join us, please sign up in Fletcher Hall or e-mail Chris Combe (who will be hosting a lunch before we begin our “tour”) at CCombe@combe.com. All family members are welcome to join us.
April 13 - Tuesday, 11:00 a.m. Women’s Fellowship Canterbury Cathedral Program. The Reverend Canon Samuel Van Culin, former Secretary General of the worldwide Anglican Communion, will speak to us about Canterbury Cathedral. Founded in the year 597, it was the scene of baptisms and burials of kings and princes, the martyrdom of Thomas Becket, the enthronement of the Archbishop, and the setting for celebrations of the English for over 1400 years. Today it is a World Heritage Site. 12:00 Noon Luncheon

The Women's Fellowship invites you to join us for the Annual Women's Retreat which will be held on Saturday, April 17 at the Convent of St. Birgitta at 4 Runkenhage Road in Darien, CT. The convent is located on a beautiful estate on Long Island Sound. The day will start with a continental breakfast at
9:00 a.m., followed by the first half of our program, then a full lunch, after which we will continue with the second half of the program and ending around 5:00 p.m. The cost for the day is $35 per person and checks should be sent to the church office, made out to Second Congregational Church Women's Fellowship with a note in the memo area that it is for the Women's Retreat. This year's Women's Retreat will explore our feelings of gratitude. Through a variety of activities, we will experience the sense of well-being that comes with thankfulness, and we will learn why scientists believe that a sense of gratitude can permanently improve our outlook on life. Join us for a day of spiritual exploration and camaraderie, led by the Rev. Lynne Kramer.
Lynne Kramer is an ordained U.C.C. minister and has served as associate minister of Round Hill Community Church and Second Congregational Church. Before graduation from Yale Divinity School in 1993 she worked in the media industry and held marketing positions at Lifetime Cable Television Network and WNET/Thirteen, as well as editorial positions at the Chicago Sun-Times and Doubleday book publisher. She has lived in Greenwich and been a member of Second Congregational Church for 25 years, and she is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Ministry degree at Hartford Seminary. Many of you know Lynne and know how fortunate we are to have her leading our group.

May 4 - Tuesday, 7:30 p.m. Multiple Angels Service, Mother’s and Father’s Day can be a very difficult time of year for those of us who have experienced the loss of a pregnancy, baby or child. You are invited to attend an interfaith remembrance service to honor our children, whose precious lives have ended far too soon. We will always be their loving parents, and though we cannot hold them in our arms, we will forever hold them in our hearts. The service will include a time for sharing. In the past, parents have shared stories of their lost children, played a song with special meaning, read a story they had hoped to read to their baby, or read poems they had found or written. Participation is warmly welcomed, though not required. Please feel free to invite family and friends who have shared your loss, or anyone you know who has experienced a loss of a pregnancy, baby or child. All are welcome. Immediately following the service at Second Church, refreshments will be served in Fletcher Hall. Sponsored by Multiple Angels, a parent’s support group for loss in multiple birth. June 12 - 8:00 p.m. Saturday - A Movie Under the Tent – The IMAX movie Under the Sea and film shorts will be shown under the tent. Narrated by actor Jim Carrey, the 1998 IMAX film is a child-friendly 3D adventure that transports viewers to exotic underwater locations to find such creatures as hermit crabs, starfish, sea urchins, lobsters, octopuses and moray eels. June 13 - Sunday - immediately following 10:30 Worship (one service only) – All Church Picnic. You are invited to attend Second Church’s Annual Tent Service and Picnic sponsored by the Deacons. Bring family and friends for worship, fun, fellowship and activities for all ages. The service will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the picnic will immediately follow. The Deacons will provide hot dogs, hamburgers, beverages and dessert. In case of rain, the picnic will take place under the tent or in Fletcher Hall. Families with last names beginning with A-L are asked to bring salads and families with last names beginning with M-Z are asked to bring vegetables. We look forward to seeing you at this annual outdoor service and picnic.

Faith-based camp that teaches students soccer and basketball, how to be a team player, a leader, and have fun with sports. All levels welcome, snack included.
