Church School classes, divided by age and grade level, meet each Sunday from September through early June during the 10:30 a.m. worship service. During the summer months, a multi-age class is provided during the 9:30 service. |
 |
Each Sunday, children attend the first part of the service, which
includes a children's message or other form of child participation in worship, and then leave for their classes. Classes are held for children beginning with toddlers up through seventh grade students, and child care is provided for infants in our nursery. Eighth graders participate in the Confirmation program. |
 |
The goal of our Church School is to provide a welcoming and nurturing environment for infants through seventh graders where they can learn the traditional stories of the Bible and begin to develop an understanding of and a relationship with God. Elementary school studens in kindergarten through fifth grade participate in Workshop Rotation Curriculum during the schoolyear, exploring Bible stories and themes by rotating through interactive workshops to immerse them in stories and cultures. Children have the oportunity to learn through games, drama, music, cooking, art, audio/visual and participation in hands-on mission projects. |
Our Toddler class uses Hands-On Bible, a Group Publishing curriculum for tactile learners. Pre-K students use Bible Quest, a Bible-based curriculum published by United Church Press. Our toddler and Pre-K classes follow a traditional one-room classroom format, with one consistant teacher in each class to keep continuity and build trust in the early years. |

The church school program for sixth and seventh grade students is a two-year "Pre-Confirmation" class during the 10:30 worship service to prepare middle school youth for the important discussions and decisions inherent to the Confirmation process. This class offers alternate years in Bible structure and Church History, including classes in world religions, so that incoming Confirmands will be familiar with the tradition into which they are coming of age and be able to confidently affirm their membership therein. |
| Throughout the course of the church school program, it is our goal for children to first develop a level of comfort within the church envoronment, then with the stories and themes in the Bible, then with the Bible itself; so that as they mature, they will grow into conscious participants in the church community. Through interactive learning, we strive to make this process not only enjoyable but also personal for each growing and developing individual. |
